How this is calculated
Cost per charge = battery size (kWh) × electricity rate (p/kWh) × 1.10 to account for typical AC charging losses. Cost per mile = that effective rate ÷ your car's real-world efficiency in miles per kWh. Weekly, monthly and annual figures scale from your weekly mileage. You can override any default — your own tariff and driving style are always more accurate than an average.
- Why is my public charging cost not covered here?
- Public rapid/ultra-rapid charging is priced very differently (often 40-79p/kWh) and isn't representative of typical home charging. This tool is specifically for home charging economics.
- Why does the off-peak tariff make such a big difference?
- Dedicated EV tariffs offer a deeply discounted rate for a set overnight window in exchange for a higher daytime rate on the rest of your usage. For most EV drivers who can charge overnight, the saving is substantial.
